Open Mouth Insert Foot…

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Open mouth, insert foot.  That is the phrase used when you say something stupid or offensive to someone without really intending to.  I have done it often.  It’s a gift I possess, actually.  That and very little patience.  Sometimes I think God must have a really great sense of humor when it comes to how he makes people!!

The time I am thinking of at the moment is when I told my daughter not to hold hands with a friend of hers because she has eczema, which I thought, at the time, was highly contagious. This hurt pumpkin_seeds friend’s feelings, which was not my intention.

I was unaware, at the time, that eczema, more often than not, is simply an allergic reaction and is not at all contagious.  It can be easily treated like any other allergy or often can be treated with creams or ointments.  I guess I should do my homework on things before I offend people by opening my mouth and shoving my foot in up to the ankle!!!

Carry On!! =)

Is it just me??

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Maybe it’s just me, but I am kinda getting sick of kids (mostly boys, but I am seeing more and more girls , too) wearing their pants around their hips.  I mean, listen boys….I.Do.Not.Care.To.See.Your.Boxers.  No matter how “cool” you think they are.   They are your underwear!!!!  They are supposed to be UNDER your clothes, not hanging out all over!!

I can understand (a little) wanting to fit in and be cool. And I can understand ( a little) if you want to wear hip hop clothing, because you want to fit  in and be “cool”, but COME ON!!!  This is one trend that IS.NOT.COOL.  It’s actually quite annoying.  I am not one of those old fuddy-duddys that thinks girls  should wear skirts to the ankle and long sleeves and boys should wear long pants and button up shirts 24/7 or anything fanatic like that, but I do think you should wear clothing that fits properly!!!  And if your pants are to big, they make things to help that….It’s called a belt people!!! And they aren’t that expensive!!!

OK, now I feel better, carry on!! LOL :)

Science Fair!!

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

So, pumpkin_seed’s new school hasn’t had their Science Fair yet, which is kinda weird.  Her old school had theirs a couple weeks ago.  Every year for the last like 7 ( 9 if you include my sons) we have had to go and buy one of those three sided  cardboard display boards and come up with a subject to do a project on.  This year we have not been asked to do that.  This close to school ending, I am wondering if we even will??? This is just one of the few things I miss about her old school :(   Maybe next year??

pumpkin_seed

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

thought i would take this opportunity to brag on my kid for a minute!!! LOL  pumpkin_seed is running track for the first time this year.  she is 13.  i think this was her 2nd meet.  she ran the 70m dash, the 100m dash and the long jump in both meets. last meet she didn’t place in anything.  this time pumpkin_seed placed 3rd in her heat for the 70m, and 5th for the 70m overall in the meet for the girls!! that is not too shabby for a new runner!! she thinks 5th place isn’t that good, but i think its great!!

she didn’t place in the 100m, but i told her practice makes perfect and she just needs to get in better shape and build up her muscles and stuff.

for long jump, she didn’t place either.  BUT she improved her jump by SIX inches from the first jump to the last!!  they get three jumps and they take the best distance to compete with.  her first two were exactly the same.  10′ 3 1/4″ each.  before her last jump i had her watch the other girls.  then i gave her some tips.  i told her she has to literally “jump” off the board.  her last steps should be heavy , into the board and she has to launch herself off.  before that she has just been kinda flinging herself off the end.  lol  so she tried it and she got 10′ 9″!!!! not the longest distance (14′ 2″) but a great improvement on what she had been jumping, which is what is important!!

with practice and hard work, she will improve on everything, and even if she isnt the best at any of it, she will have at least tried her hardest and kept herself in good shape!!! :)

good job, baby girl, i couldn’t be any more proud!! keep up the good work!!  LOVE YOU!!!

“Blemishes”

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

So, as I have mentioned before, my sweet 13 year old daughter does suffer from the occasional “blemish”.  OK, let’s call it what it is, “pimple”, “zit” , but she doesn’t have a full blown  acne problem, yet.   The thing I don’t wanna do is have her use harsh soaps and cleansers on her delicate skin, and I surely don’t want to put her on dangerous chemically medicines and such, if not NECESSARY.  Do any of my (4 or so lol) readers know of any natural remedies for “blemishes”.  That is what I would prefer to use, for now.  Thnx for any ideas you might have!

School Stuff

Monday, April 12th, 2010

When pumpkin_seed started going to a new school last fall, we assumed there would be a few things we would have to purchase.  School supplies, I mean. Pencils, paper, folders, etc.  One thing I didn’t realize she would need was a flash drive.  I guess if I had thought about it, I would have known.  Since she is taking a computer course.

I just didn’t think about it.  I thought they were pretty expensive, but they really aren’t.  The one she needed for class was only $12 or $15.  I can’t remember for sure.  I didn’t think that was too bad at all.  The amount of information it will hold is what contributes to the price, I think.

She is planning on taking as many computer classes as she can throughout Jr. High and High School.  She is a smart one, that kid!!

M-I-C-K-E-Y, M-O-U-S-E….

Growing up, one of the most exciting things I could think of was one of those Disney vacations.  We never took one.  We went to Cedar Point and Sea World in Ohio…Took a lot of camping trips, but never went to Disney.  UNTIL I MOVED OUT!!

Yeah, My parents took my youngest sister to Disney after I moved out of the house.  What a jip!! I keep trying to convince Buster that we need to go.  He says maybe someday!! I don’t know, now that I’m older, I think it may be a little over rated, but I still wouldn’t mind going!!

Taking Care of Baby…

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

I have a friend who is having a hard time taking her pregnancy vitamins.  She says they are like horse pills and she can’t swallow them very well.  I told her no to worry about it, to just take a chewable multi-vitamin.  She is worried that they won’t be as good for her.  I said that it would be better than taking nothing at all.  Anyone have some good advice for her??

Teens, Ugh!

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

HELP!! MY daughter is having her first “breakout” and I have no idea how to help her. Anyone know how to get rid of blackheads really fast??  Can anyone suggest a good face wash that is good for sensitive skin?? It’s been too long since I had to worry about anything like this.   I keep telling her, WASH YOUR FACE MORE!! I am thinking, although this is good advice, it isn’t going to save her completely from getting blackheads….Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Promotional items for camp??

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

So, I have been thinking.  I know,  know….ANYWAY, we recently visited another camp in the area to see what we could see.  We  are trying to get some ideas on how to make our camp better.  Not that we would ever copy someone else, but we may be able to steal all their ideas incorporate some of what works for them to make our camp better.  Anyway they have this huge “gift shop”, which is is something we will probably never have. BUT, we do have a “snack shack”, where the kidlets can come and buy goodies.  I thought it might be cool for the them to be able to buy little mementos to remind them of their stay with us here at Fort Faith.  Things like  t-shirts and/or custom water bottles with our logo on them.  It might be a good way for the camp to be able to pay the bills little easier too!! Just a thought…

Be Blessed…
