SOUPS ON…

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Every Sunday at Bible Baptist Church (Big Rapids, MI~~a shameless plug, I know) we have Sunday School at 10:00 AM.  Then we have our AM service at 11:00 AM.  At noon we all have lunch together there at the Church, fellowship, clean up and then have the PM service at 2:00 PM.  It’s fabulous!!

Since the Church has a refrigerator, microwave, sink and dishwasher, but no stove/oven, we all have to bring our hot dishes in in crock pots. It’s not a big deal, really.  Actually it’s convenient to keep your stuff hot in a crock pot.  My problem was bringing soup or stew or anything else that could slop around  and get all over everything!

A friend of mine brought one of these to Church…

Ain’t it perty?  I think so!!

So, when CSN Stores contacted me to do a review for them again, I went to one of their over 200+ stores looking for this fantastic gem.  And sure enough, they had one and it was the right price.  So I ordered it, got it and used it!!

This crock pot is awesome!!   It has these clamps on both sides and little hooks that they latch onto.  You simply put the latch over the hook, pull down on the clamp and it clamps the lid down.  The lid has a black rubber (I assume it’s rubber) gasket that goes all the way around it, so when clamped down it makes an air/water/soup tight seal!! =)

This last Sunday I man split pea and sausage SOUP!! Yes, I said SOUP!!  I really wanted to see if this baby would live up to my expectations.  Guess what??

NO LEAKS!!!  We live on a dirt road that isn’t smooth at all and there are so many bumps, I thought for sure it would leak some.  It.Didn’t.Leak.At.ALL.  It was amazing.  The High sitting got the soup nice and hot like it was supposed to and it turned out great….don’t think I’ll make that soup again (it wasn’t my favorite) but I’ll definitely use the crock pot again!!!

I give this Crock Pot ♥♥♥♥ (4 hearts)!!!

(since I don’t have stars on my character thingy, I will use hearts for rating on my reviews…1 heart being very poor, 2 hearts being poor, 3 hearts being average, 4 hearts being good and 5  hearts being very good).

The only thing that I would change on this is I would give it Cool Touch sides, this baby gets HOT!!!!

Thanks to CSNStores for, once again, hooking me up with a great product!!! =)

When Buster and I moved into the house here at camp, we got hardly any TV channels.  So we went looking for antenna reviews to see which would be the best one for our needs.  We have a HD TV so we didn’t need a converter, but we still needed a “boost” to get many channels.

We still don’t get a lot with the digital antenna we have, but it’s better than if we didn’t have one at all.  It seems like ever since they changed from analog, the channel selection is actually less than before!  I think we have more problems with pixelation and stuff like that than we ever have…

Does anyone know if indoor antenna’s do any good??  I often wonder how they could because they are so small and they don’t look like they are made of much.  But then again, I don’t know anything about how they actually work, so….

I also don’t understand why you have to have 75,000 cables hooked from the antenna to the TV, and the TV to the DVD player and the DVD player to the receiver and the….OMG ( oh my goodness)!!  It’s all just too much, but I digress….

Here is a fabulous recipe for a soup that supposedly comes from Weight Watchers.  Not sure of the points for it, maybe someone can help me out with that???

Anywho…

Chicken and Black Bean Soup

1 can black beans

1 jar salsa

1 can low sodium chicken broth

1 can chicken

1 can corn (not drained)

1 can refried beans

**put everything in a pan, heat through, enjoy**

Happy Fat Tuesday!!!

Buster and I bought our mattress like 14 years ago, and let me tell you, it’s time to get a new one!!!  I’d like to not only get a mattress but also headboard and  foot board set…we have never had a nice one and I think it’s about time.

I am seriously thinking about having Buster and his friend J. make it themselves.  They have the knowledge and skills to do it!! So all I would need to buy is the mattress set.  That would save us some money and give the guys a project (like they don’t have enough to do around here, LOL)

Actually now that I am thinking about it, I think I should have them make a whole bedroom set, night stands and all!!  Maybe I won’t press my luck, keep it simple….for now ;)

MY NEW FONDUE SET!! =)

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Remember this post??  Well, the fine people over at CSN Stores sent out my fondue pot within just a few days.  But, as usual, I have been so busy, I haven’t had a chance to use it, let alone review it!!

UNTIL NOW!!!

I am so glad that CSN Stores offered me the chance to review this fondue pot.

It.Is.Fabulous.

I used a couple recipes from the owner’s booklet that came with the fondue pot.  I wasn’t impressed with the first one we tried (the one we used for the pictures).  And honestly, we added a few ingredients to the cream cheese recipe to try to “kick it up a notch” and it did help, but I was looking for something with a little more umph!!  But the chocolate recipe was good!!!

The pot itself was great!! All the ingredients melted like they were supposed to, and the easy-to-read/use  heat settings were nice.  All it took to make the fondue sauces  we used  was the warm setting on the dial.

The fondue pot I got included eight “forks”, each with a different colored “dot” at the end of the stick so you don’t have to worry about mixing them up when using them with friends.  I, of course picked the pink one!!  Then the kids fought over the rest…but it all worked out.  It also has a stay-cool ring that sits on the top of the pot itself to hold the forks and catch drips and such.  It is electric but fully immersible for washing, which is nice.  It was very easy to clean after both recipes, cheese and chocolate. Overall, I think this is a great product.

The only thing I would do different is make the pot divided.  It is big enough that you could do two fondues at once.  Once sweet and one savory, for example.  It would be great to be able to both without having to take one fondue out and wash the pot and start over on another!! Just a suggestion Rival!! =)

I give this Fondue Pot ♥♥♥♥ (4 hearts)!!!

(since I don’t have stars on my character thingy, I will use hearts for rating on my reviews…1 heart being very poor, 2 hearts being poor, 3 hearts being average, 4 hearts being good and 5  hearts being very good).

Here are some pictures of our Fondue Party!!

So there you have it.  Rival’s 3 qt. Stainless Steel Fondue Set is a big hit at our house!!!

Isn’t my “little” helper too cute?? Love you pumpkin_seed, Thanks for helping out!!

Bathrooms and things….

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Buster and I recently had to buy some new bathroom fixtures because the ones here broke.  I am a huge fan of metals in bathrooms as opposed to wood.  I just like the look.  I enjoy brushed nickel the most, I think.

However, since the fixtures we just bought were chrome, that will most likely be what we will look for in a Hansgrohe faucet.  I love the new modern looks that are out right now! Sleek, modern and functional.  I can’t wait to get some money and make my choice!!

Lights!! =)

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

I adore ceiling fans with fancy lights!! I just had to say that!! In our old house we had a GORGEOUS ceiling fan in our bedroom with beautiful lights on it…which I tried, unsuccessfully I might add, to get my husband to move along with us to the new house.  Since then, I have been looking for one for our  new living room.  Not that there is anything wrong with the one that’s there, but it’s just a basic , run-of-the-mill ceiling fan, and I like the fancy ones!! =)

So, when I saw that Kichler lighting had some fancy ceiling fans, I was ecstatic!! For, as much as I love fancy ceiling fans with lights, I love to shop online at great prices!!

CSN Stores ROCK!!!!! =)

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

As you may or may not know (probably the latter, since I have about 2.3 regular readers here), I did a giveaway/review post for CSN Stores a while back.  Recently they contacted me to do another review for them!! It’s so exciting, I know!!!!  This time it will be a review only, though.  Once again, they let me pick what I wanted to do my review on (within a certain price range).  So, as we were lying in bed, I asked my hubby what I should get to review.  Of course, he was no help at all, so I had to choose on my own.

So, since I have long wanted a fondue pot but haven’t really felt the need to splurge to get it myself, I decided to get one courtesy of CSN Stores .   THANK YOU CSN Stores!!!!  They have a really cool electric fondue set by Rival on one of their 200+ websites.  I.CANNOT.WAIT.TO.GET.IT and try it out!!!

Ain’t it perty??? =)

Don’t forget to come back and see what I have to say about my new fondue set!!!!

Carry On =)….and til I see you again,
