Men, you might wanna skip this post…just sayin’ LOL

So, for about a week now I have been sick…no, not really sick, just OFF.  I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why… This weird pressure in my head, then headaches, night sweats, sweating out of the blue during the day, nausea, fatigue, sleeplessness, the list goes on and on. And that’s not all…

Then last night I really didn’t feel good and I thought I had a fever, so I took my temperature.  The thermometer said 103 degrees.  I thought that wasn’t right so I took it again, right away.  Then it said I had a temperature of 99.1.  I thought that was strange.  Buster told me to take some Tylenol and lay down, so I did.  I thought I was coming down with something.

About an hour later, exhausted, I went to bed only to not be able to get comfortable and not sleep. Then when I finally did fall asleep for a couple hours, I woke up around 4 drenched with sweat and freezing!!  Then I tried and failed to get comfortable some more til I finally fell back to sleep, covering myself up with the sheet and taking it off again as I went from freezing to overheating several times…Then this morning I was laying in bed feeling not very rested and it came to me….MENOPAUSE!!!!!  What was happening last night were extreme HOT FLASHES!!!!  I have had them before, but never like this!!

I had a radical (they took EVERYTHING) hysterectomy three years ago and I think it’s finally catching up to me.  See your body converts fat cells into estrogen so us “big girls” tend to store up estrogen longer than those who are not as “fluffy”.  So all the symptoms I have been having…night sweats, extreme hot flashes, pressure in my head, fatigue, sleeplessness (ironic, huh??), headaches, body aches, dizziness, nausea, the whole works is stinking menopause.  I should have known.  I figured if I hadn’t had much problems by now, I wouldn’t.  HA!!!

My next problem is, I don’t want to take anything that isn’t natural, but that’s all my insurance will pay for, is something I can get from my doctor….I have progesterone cream, but it won’t take care of everything, so I’m not sure what to do.  Any suggestions??

AND, I just read that this can go on from 1-10 years!!!! UGH!! Pray for me please!!!

Very Interesting…

Friday, August 20th, 2010

I went to school to be a Medical Assistant like 15 years ago.  Just before graduating, I found out I was preggers with my daughter.  After having her, I got really sick and never even registered and therefore never went into the field. I really liked the studies and graduated with honors, but have forgotten much of what I learned.  Also, medical procedures and such change so much over time that I really don’t know much about it anymore…

Does anyone out there know what exactly a spirometer is?? I didn’t either until today…

A spirometer is a tool that doctor’s use to measure how much air is actually inhaled and exhaled through the lungs.   They are really helpful when treating patients with COPD and/or asthma and other lung conditions.

Medical procedures and instruments and such still interest me and I love to learn new things about the medical field!!!

A Little Late…

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

I love how you struggle through something and then you find a solution.  Back when I had my hysterectomy, Buster’s job didn’t offer health insurance and I didn’t qualify for Medicaid.  So, we paid a large sum of money (over $10,000) for my surgery, and it would have been more if the Dr. and Hospital hadn’t deducted some form the amount do to some complications during the surgery.

Anyway, now I hear about this HSA (health savings account).  The idea is, you purchase a high-deductible insurance plan (HDHP) that gives you a low-cost premium.  Then you put some or even all the money you save on premiums  into a tax-free health savings account in your own name.  The money you put in is yours, not an insurance company’s. This is also good for you come tax time because,   an HSA’s above-the-line deductibility REDUCES your adjusted gross income, effectively reducing your tax burden each year.

When a health problem comes along, you simply use your HSA to pay any qualified expenses that your high-deductible insurance doesn’t cover.  The money is withdrawn tax-free and making payment couldn’t be easier, you just hand the provider your HSA debit card.

Most covered expenses include dental bills, over-the-counter medicines, prescription drugs, eye care, hearing aids, and many other health-related items and services that the HDHP doesn’t pay.  And, if you don’t use all the money you put in, you can either use it later on in life for long-term care or medicare deductibles or you can withdraw it from the account (there is a penalty if you are under 65, though).

What a Pain!!

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

My friends dad had to have surgery on his rotator cuff (shoulder) a while back.  He was in so much pain before the surgery, he couldn’t lift his arm above his waist!!  That’s a lot of pain!! And he also suffers from Post-Polio syndrome (he had polio as a child), which can be very painful.  But this man is one of the hardest working men I know!!

He works at a truck parts factory, I think.  I’m not sure if they actually make parts or if they just fix them, but what he does is hard work.  He has to pull parts down off of high shelves and lift heavy truck and car parts.  It’s a hard job, my peeps!!

Anyway, they had to fight and fight to get the companies disability claims department to finally decide they would pay for his surgery.  I don’t know if they thought they should have their own disability insurance or what.  And it isn’t easy for some people to prove that their injuries are work related, either.  This man works on Church buses and friends cars and all that, so he technically could have injured himself somewhere other than work, but goodness!!!  Pulling parts and working on heavy equipment for 20+ years sure can’t be easy on a body!!

It would seem to  me that his place of work would want to take better care of their employees, to keep them in good shape so they can do their jobs and do them well!!

A new diet….

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

In my quest to lose weight, I have thought about trying just about anything to give myself a leg up on this weight loss thing.  I have recently heard of several people I know that have tried the HCG hormone weight loss diet.  All three people I have talked to have had great results, so I am really seriously thinking about trying it out.  My one problem is the cost.  And it really isn’t that expensive, I am just on a really limited budget at the moment.  But I am seriously thinking about trying this when I get an extra $45 (my one friend said that’s all it cost her including shipping of the product).  And compared to other programs and/or drugs, that is pretty reasonable, especially if it works, which it did for her!! She looks great!!

I think you can get the hormones themselves in a couple different ways, drops (that you place under the tongue) and injections you inject into your tummy fat.  I really don’t know a lot about this diet, but I can’t ignore the results I have seen with my own eyes.  If have found several websites with information about this HCG diet.  If you live in Texas, you could try HCG injections Austin, otherwise, you could just Google HCG diet and you can read about all the pro’s and con’s of this diet and even read some warnings about it.

Of the three people I talked to about it, only one had issues with side effects or problems, and that was due to a pre-existing condition that flared up due to how this diet works in the body.  So maybe by next summer, I will have that swim-suit body I really wanted for this summer!

Fat Tuesday (a day late)

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

Actually, it’s not really a whole day late…it’s only 12:04 AM Wednesday morning….SORRY TAYLOR!!!

So anyway,  here is my Fat Tuesday post…

Has anyone heard about the HCG Hormone Diet??? I have heard several people singing it’s praises, and seen the weight loss for myself.  A friend of mine has used the liquid form (you place drops of the hormone under your tongue) twice and lost over 20 pounds!!

I guess you do a few things (actually QUITE a few) in phase 1 that makes the weight loss you achieve in later phases easier and more permanent.  Then you actually take the hormones and follow a very strict 500 calorie-a-day diet.  I guess it’s fairly inexpensive (when it comes to the cost of diet programs) and not harmful at all.  It works by targeting “abnormal” fat cells (the kind our bodies store in our bellies, hips and thighs, that we really don’t need) and burns those first as energy therefore boosting your bodies metabolism.  This gets rid of the unwanted fat and gives you more energy to burn fat you still take in and build muscle.

It all sounds a little too good to be true to me, but I don’t know much about it and I can’t argue with how great my friend looks!!  And she said nothing about weird side affects and or problems with the diet or the hormones….anyone know anything about this??  Care to share your opinion??

Til we meet again…

Sisters….

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

My twin sister (Jenny) was born with Cerebral Palsy.  Brain Damage.  I have no idea whether she had it in the womb or if something happened during delivery that caused this brain damage.  As a child she had problems with her fine motor skills ( picking th9ings up with her fingers) as well as her gross motor skills (learning to crawl and walk).  The doctor’s told my parents that my sister might never walk without some sort of aid and that she would probably eventually be in a wheel chair.  She did walk and as of yet (35 years old) she has not been confined to a chair.

In the last few years Jenny’s health has been on a steady decline.  She has major back and neck pain as well as problems with her one shoulder.  I can’t help but wonder if some of this has been brought on by her lifestyle.  She hasn’t made the best choices when it comes to what she has subjected her body to.  She is a smoker and has been known to drink.  And she is very sedentary.

My parent’s and I have often hounded her to take better care of herself to keep herself in better health.  Of course, I am one to talk…I am overweight and don’t get the exercise I should, but I also don’t have the health issues she has.  I keep telling her that if she doesn’t quit smoking, she’s going to get emphysema and need one of those respironics oxygen concentrators.  Or worse, she may end up cutting her life short with lung cancer.

I hope she wises up soon, before it’s too late!!!

Open Mouth Insert Foot…

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Open mouth, insert foot.  That is the phrase used when you say something stupid or offensive to someone without really intending to.  I have done it often.  It’s a gift I possess, actually.  That and very little patience.  Sometimes I think God must have a really great sense of humor when it comes to how he makes people!!

The time I am thinking of at the moment is when I told my daughter not to hold hands with a friend of hers because she has eczema, which I thought, at the time, was highly contagious. This hurt pumpkin_seeds friend’s feelings, which was not my intention.

I was unaware, at the time, that eczema, more often than not, is simply an allergic reaction and is not at all contagious.  It can be easily treated like any other allergy or often can be treated with creams or ointments.  I guess I should do my homework on things before I offend people by opening my mouth and shoving my foot in up to the ankle!!!

The things we do to ourselves….

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

It could just be me, but it seems like there are an awful lot of weight loss pills out on the market these days.  I hate to talk about something no one wants to hear about, but I think this speaks volumes about the society we live in today.

Years ago, there weren’t many diet pills out there, or least they weren’t talked about so much.  People wanted to lose weight, they changed their diet and exercised more.  Our “microwave”, instant, I want it now mentality makes us do some crazy stuff!!

For instance, take pills that could potentially be harmful if not used correctly, or in themselves just be dangerous!!  People today want results right now, or why bother.  I must confess I, too get this way especially about weight loss.  I become discouraged very easily and don’t like to wait to see those pounds being shed!!!

Now, that is what I am talkin’ about…

Friday, June 18th, 2010

…a “diet” pill that isn’t just a “diet” pill!!  A whole new animal, that’s what apidexin is!!  This is more like a fat-loss pill than a weight-loss pill.  And it has other benefits as well!! It is actually good for you, from what I read anyway…

Each and every ingredient in this product claims  to at some point increase the bodies ability to kill off fat cells and increase your metabolism (which will eventually result in weight loss).  Said ingredients also focus on building lean muscle as opposed to most weight loss pills, which generally only focus on losing water weight – which is almost always only a temporary loss.

Your fat burning and metabolism are both increased, but that’s not all!  You can increased thyroid function, lower cholesterol, increase circulation and absorb more vitamins and minerals.  To lose weight and keep it off, one must generally improve the overall health of ones body.

Apidexin is supposedly so good for you, it could actually be used for its added health even if it didn’t have the added benefit of fat loss.  Sounds like a win-win situation to me!?!
