Is insurance mandatory at your college??

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

If you have been around long at all, you have come to the realization that I blog about everything and anything!!!  If you can go on and on and on write/talk about it, I probably have!!  And probably even a few things you can’t/shouldn’t!! =)

Jut like today, I am gonna tell you about how easy it is to get affordable health coverage in!! Albeit, NC short term health insurance.  Still the same, it is affordable insurance!!  Actually it is for students who aren’t covered under a parent’s plan anymore or students who attend school out of their home State.  Did you know some schools make it mandatory to have insurance??? WOW!!

Very Interesting…

I went to school to be a Medical Assistant like 15 years ago.  Just before graduating, I found out I was preggers with my daughter.  After having her, I got really sick and never even registered and therefore never went into the field. I really liked the studies and graduated with honors, but have forgotten much of what I learned.  Also, medical procedures and such change so much over time that I really don’t know much about it anymore…

Does anyone out there know what exactly a spirometer is?? I didn’t either until today…

A spirometer is a tool that doctor’s use to measure how much air is actually inhaled and exhaled through the lungs.   They are really helpful when treating patients with COPD and/or asthma and other lung conditions.

Medical procedures and instruments and such still interest me and I love to learn new things about the medical field!!!

“Book” Smarts…

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Buster and I moved into a house last year that is 1/3 the size of our previous house.  Needless to say we are having quite a time finding room for all our things.  One thing we really don’t want to get rid of , but may not have a choice about is books.  We had an extra room in our old house where we kept all the books on bookshelves.  We no longer have an extra room for ANYTHING!!

Some of our books are probably worth some money if we can find the right venue to sell them.  I recently found out you can sell used books online!!  The best part of that is, that you can recoup most of your money when you sell them that way, and you can sell your books night or day, every day since it’s online and always “open”.  You can even sell your used textbooks, which is good for those who can’t afford new or just don’t want to pay full price for them!!

Science Fair!!

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

So, pumpkin_seed’s new school hasn’t had their Science Fair yet, which is kinda weird.  Her old school had theirs a couple weeks ago.  Every year for the last like 7 ( 9 if you include my sons) we have had to go and buy one of those three sided  cardboard display boards and come up with a subject to do a project on.  This year we have not been asked to do that.  This close to school ending, I am wondering if we even will??? This is just one of the few things I miss about her old school :(   Maybe next year??

School Stuff

Monday, April 12th, 2010

When pumpkin_seed started going to a new school last fall, we assumed there would be a few things we would have to purchase.  School supplies, I mean. Pencils, paper, folders, etc.  One thing I didn’t realize she would need was a flash drive.  I guess if I had thought about it, I would have known.  Since she is taking a computer course.

I just didn’t think about it.  I thought they were pretty expensive, but they really aren’t.  The one she needed for class was only $12 or $15.  I can’t remember for sure.  I didn’t think that was too bad at all.  The amount of information it will hold is what contributes to the price, I think.

She is planning on taking as many computer classes as she can throughout Jr. High and High School.  She is a smart one, that kid!!

Higher Education….

When looking for a good place to continue your education, there are a few things you will want to consider.

Location, Courses and Cost just to name a few.

Where do you want to be?

What are you interested in?

How much can/do you want to spend on your education?

Have you considered an online university??  A program like this can be personalized just for you, around your schedule and needs.  The convenience of it takes away your worries of where you go to school.

As far as what you are interested in, the course studies offered are practically unlimited!!  Everything from an online business degree to an online nursing degree.

I recently visited Western Governors University’s website and all I can say is “WOW”!!  They have got some great ideas!!  For instance, how many schools do you know of that charge a flat rate every six months so you only pay for the time it actually takes you to complete your studies, not credit hours.  The faster you excel, the more you save!!  Plus, they are non-profit and much more affordable than the typical University!!

WGU is a fully accredited online education institution.

Be Blessed…

SAT help….

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

SAT tests…wow, that brings back memories.  It’s things like this that really make me feel old!!  I don’t even remember what I got on mine..does anyone? Maybe it’s just me, cause I don’t think I did real hot, but I don’t know.  Now you can actually study for them online with LSAT prep .  How’s that for convenient?? I think back when I took mine, the best they could do was a pamphlet that the school handed out…..sign of the times, eh??

Family Projects…

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Every year pumpkin_seed has to do a Science Fair project and we go out and buy a cardboard display of some sort.  One year she and her dad made one with a little “house” with furniture and lights and the whole nine yards and the science part was how the light switch worked.  It was very cool.  She loves spending time with her dad working on ANYTHING!!!  I hope her new school does the same thing!!

I actually went to school to be a Medical Assistant.  Back when my son was a baby, I took a 13 month course that included medical coding training courses.  I really enjoyed it and I graduated with honors!! Then I found out I was pregnant with my daughter and never got a job.  Bummer!! I got really sick after I had her (I am Bipolar) and couldn’t hold down a job after that.  It’s too bad, too.  I really enjoy that kind of work!! The point?? These are the type of jobs you should train for, because this type of work is always in demand!!

nothing like a good book…

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

When I need to relax and unwind, there is nothing better than sitting down with a good book.  I like a good romantic storyline now and then, but I think mostly, I like a good murder mystery or suspense type of storyline better.   What’s your favorite kind of book??

I don’t have a lot of time to sit down and read but I do like to do  it when I can.  And these days books are easy to come by, too.  You can find great books online at Amazon books.  They have a wide variety of books at good prices!!

Happy Reading, see you soon.  Til then…
