Education…

Y’all have heard of University of Phoenix, right? They are off the chain, yo!

They have got it going on! Not only can you get an education, but they have online resources for posting resumes, career resources, ERP Jobs, the whole nine yards!

They are so efficient.  They offer courses in IT, Nursing, Education, Criminal Justice, Communications, Engineering, etc.  You name it, they probably have a course you can take on it. So, if you are looking for the perfect job, but need the right education to get it first, they might be just the option for you…

You’re welcome…

J-O-B

With the economy the way it is right now, if you don’t have a skill set of any kind, it’s probably really hard to find a job.  You add having a family to the mix and it gets even messier.  A lot of parents are having a hard time with balancing a job, a home and schooling.

That’s what’s nice about online degree programs.  Most of them allow you to work at your own pace and on your own time, meaning you can “go to class” right in your own home, after the kids go to bed for the night, or while they are doing homework, or whenever is convenient for you…

Again, You’re Welcome!!   ;)

Better Backpacks???

Do you remember when those backpacks came out a few years ago?? You know the ones.  Instead of wearing them on your back like a regular backpack, you wore them across your body.  The sling backpacks

Well, I was told that these sling backpacks were supposed to be so much better for the kids to carry for school  than the traditional backpacks, because the kids never wear the “back” packs on their backs, they always sling them over one shoulder, which is very bad for their backs.

So, of course we went out and bought a sling backpack for Pumpkin Seed, thinking it would be much better for her.  We were wrong!! Well, first off, it was too large for her body size, but they only came in the one size then.  Secondly, the way it fit, it pulled on her one shoulder making her back ache.  So much for better for her (sarcastic tone)!!

Now, they come in all different sizes and styles to fit every one’s size and style!!! I love it when the makers “get it” and make the necessary changes to their products!!!   =)

Just When I Thought I’d Seen Everything….

WOW.  I thought I had seen everything, but no, I had not!!! You can literally find everything online these days.  Everything from how long to cook a roast to how to heal acne without “popping pimples”.  Oh my….

I guess there are those out there, though, who can benefit from such knowledge.  I went to school with a girl who was compulsive about her acne.  She would literally bruise herself and create sores that took weeks to heal, trying to get rid of acne.  I guess you can learn more than I ever thought on the Internet!!  Even about popping pimples!!  8O

Is insurance mandatory at your college??

If you have been around long at all, you have come to the realization that I blog about everything and anything!!!  If you can go on and on and on write/talk about it, I probably have!!  And probably even a few things you can’t/shouldn’t!! =)

Jut like today, I am gonna tell you about how easy it is to get affordable health coverage in!! Albeit, NC short term health insurance.  Still the same, it is affordable insurance!!  Actually it is for students who aren’t covered under a parent’s plan anymore or students who attend school out of their home State.  Did you know some schools make it mandatory to have insurance??? WOW!!

Very Interesting…

I went to school to be a Medical Assistant like 15 years ago.  Just before graduating, I found out I was preggers with my daughter.  After having her, I got really sick and never even registered and therefore never went into the field. I really liked the studies and graduated with honors, but have forgotten much of what I learned.  Also, medical procedures and such change so much over time that I really don’t know much about it anymore…

Does anyone out there know what exactly a spirometer is?? I didn’t either until today…

A spirometer is a tool that doctor’s use to measure how much air is actually inhaled and exhaled through the lungs.   They are really helpful when treating patients with COPD and/or asthma and other lung conditions.

Medical procedures and instruments and such still interest me and I love to learn new things about the medical field!!!

“Book” Smarts…

Buster and I moved into a house last year that is 1/3 the size of our previous house.  Needless to say we are having quite a time finding room for all our things.  One thing we really don’t want to get rid of , but may not have a choice about is books.  We had an extra room in our old house where we kept all the books on bookshelves.  We no longer have an extra room for ANYTHING!!

Some of our books are probably worth some money if we can find the right venue to sell them.  I recently found out you can sell used books online!!  The best part of that is, that you can recoup most of your money when you sell them that way, and you can sell your books night or day, every day since it’s online and always “open”.  You can even sell your used textbooks, which is good for those who can’t afford new or just don’t want to pay full price for them!!

Carry On!! =)

Science Fair!!

So, pumpkin_seed’s new school hasn’t had their Science Fair yet, which is kinda weird.  Her old school had theirs a couple weeks ago.  Every year for the last like 7 ( 9 if you include my sons) we have had to go and buy one of those three sided  cardboard display boards and come up with a subject to do a project on.  This year we have not been asked to do that.  This close to school ending, I am wondering if we even will??? This is just one of the few things I miss about her old school :(   Maybe next year??

School Stuff

When pumpkin_seed started going to a new school last fall, we assumed there would be a few things we would have to purchase.  School supplies, I mean. Pencils, paper, folders, etc.  One thing I didn’t realize she would need was a flash drive.  I guess if I had thought about it, I would have known.  Since she is taking a computer course.

I just didn’t think about it.  I thought they were pretty expensive, but they really aren’t.  The one she needed for class was only $12 or $15.  I can’t remember for sure.  I didn’t think that was too bad at all.  The amount of information it will hold is what contributes to the price, I think.

She is planning on taking as many computer classes as she can throughout Jr. High and High School.  She is a smart one, that kid!!

Higher Education….

When looking for a good place to continue your education, there are a few things you will want to consider.

Location, Courses and Cost just to name a few.

Where do you want to be?

What are you interested in?

How much can/do you want to spend on your education?

Have you considered an online university??  A program like this can be personalized just for you, around your schedule and needs.  The convenience of it takes away your worries of where you go to school.

As far as what you are interested in, the course studies offered are practically unlimited!!  Everything from an online business degree to an online nursing degree.

I recently visited Western Governors University’s website and all I can say is “WOW”!!  They have got some great ideas!!  For instance, how many schools do you know of that charge a flat rate every six months so you only pay for the time it actually takes you to complete your studies, not credit hours.  The faster you excel, the more you save!!  Plus, they are non-profit and much more affordable than the typical University!!

WGU is a fully accredited online education institution.

Be Blessed…

SAT help….

SAT tests…wow, that brings back memories.  It’s things like this that really make me feel old!!  I don’t even remember what I got on mine..does anyone? Maybe it’s just me, cause I don’t think I did real hot, but I don’t know.  Now you can actually study for them online with LSAT prep .  How’s that for convenient?? I think back when I took mine, the best they could do was a pamphlet that the school handed out…..sign of the times, eh??

Family Projects…

Every year pumpkin_seed has to do a Science Fair project and we go out and buy a cardboard display of some sort.  One year she and her dad made one with a little “house” with furniture and lights and the whole nine yards and the science part was how the light switch worked.  It was very cool.  She loves spending time with her dad working on ANYTHING!!!  I hope her new school does the same thing!!
