I struggle when I see comments or hear people talk about “those kind of people”. You know the “dead-beat”, “low-down”, “no good”, “lazy” people on welfare…The ones who just sit around and do nothing and collect the benefits, while you work your tail off to “support” them…
Well, let me just say that NOT.ALL.PEOPLE. collecting welfare are like that. My husband, daughter and I are on Medicaid and have been for some time because we can’t afford even the cheapest health insurance. And, it’s not because we don’t work. We work very hard. Buster works harder than I do, but we both work!! And even my daughter does a fair amount of work!
We are in full-time service at a Christian camp (Fort Faith Baptist Bible Camp). In the summer, I work 5-6 days a week from about 6AM til about 10 PM running the camp kitchen. My daughter is up in the kitchen working with me most days. This time of year, we are less busy, but I still work here at the camp, doing paperwork, sending out newsletters and odds and ends. My husband works 5-6 days a week from 8-9 AM til dark and sometimes after year round doing up-keep and maintenance here at the camp. We don’t get a “pay-check” for the work we do. The camp takes very good care of us, and we do have some support coming in (like missionaries) but we do not have what you would call a steady income.
All that being said…since we have been out here (a year and a half), God has provided the money needed to pay our bills EVERY MONTH!! And He has also provided many extra blessings that we would have never imagined that He would!!
So, please, just think before you spout things out and make a fool of yourself. Not everyone is looking for a hand-out and not everyone wants something for nothing…please be kind and think of other people’s feelings!
