My twin sister (Jenny) was born with Cerebral Palsy. Brain Damage. I have no idea whether she had it in the womb or if something happened during delivery that caused this brain damage. As a child she had problems with her fine motor skills ( picking th9ings up with her fingers) as well as her gross motor skills (learning to crawl and walk). The doctor’s told my parents that my sister might never walk without some sort of aid and that she would probably eventually be in a wheel chair. She did walk and as of yet (35 years old) she has not been confined to a chair.
In the last few years Jenny’s health has been on a steady decline. She has major back and neck pain as well as problems with her one shoulder. I can’t help but wonder if some of this has been brought on by her lifestyle. She hasn’t made the best choices when it comes to what she has subjected her body to. She is a smoker and has been known to drink. And she is very sedentary.
My parent’s and I have often hounded her to take better care of herself to keep herself in better health. Of course, I am one to talk…I am overweight and don’t get the exercise I should, but I also don’t have the health issues she has. I keep telling her that if she doesn’t quit smoking, she’s going to get emphysema and need one of those respironics oxygen concentrators. Or worse, she may end up cutting her life short with lung cancer.
I hope she wises up soon, before it’s too late!!!
