This recipe comes from  Buster’s grandmother.  She is an awesome cook and an excellent baker!! This recipe is for butterscotch oatmeal cookies.  These are a family favorite and for good reason, THEY.ARE.DELICIOUS.  So, without further ado, I give you…

Butterscotch-Oatmeal Cookies

1 1/2 c. flour

1 t. baking soda

1 c. shortening

3/4 c. brown sugar

3/4 c. white sugar

2 eggs

1 T. hot water

2 c. quick oats

1 t. vanilla

1/2 c. walnut meats (optional)

1 package butterscotch chips

Preheat oven to 375°.  Combine flour and baking soda in small bowl;  set aside.  Cream shortening and sugar together.  Add beaten eggs, mix well.  Now add hot water.  Next add flour mixture.  Chopped nuts go in next, if using, along with oatmeal, vanilla and butterscotch chips.  Drop by teaspoons on cookie sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.

  1. Butterscotch? I’ve never heard of that before but I do love oatmeal cookies for sure. I’m making cookies for VBS at church next week so perhaps we’ll try these! Thanks for sharing!
