Tempt My Cake Luvin’ Tummy!!!

Well, yesterday was Buster’s 38th birthday!!  We had  some friends over and we had brats, burgers, baked beans, chips, olives and pickles.  And of course, ice cream and cake!!  We had a lot of fun!!  We sat around and ate and talked and laughed, watched some t.v. !! I love my friends!!  It turned out to be a great evening!!

I make the same cake for Buster just about every year, because he LOVES it!! It is a simple recipe, too.  It comes out of the “Better homes and Gardens New Cookbook”.  I think this is the same one his mom always made him.

So, without further ado, I give you my Tempt My Tummy Tuesday Recipe for the week!!! *drum roll*  It is Applesauce Spice Cake.  I will give you the list of ingredients and what you need to do!!

What you will need: (Note special instructions at end for the applesauce spice cake)

2 c. all-purpose flour

1 1/2 t. baking powder

1/2 t. baking soda

1 t. ground cinnamon

1/4 t. ground nutmeg

1/4 t. cloves

1/4 t. ginger

1/4 c. butter

1/4 c. shortening

2 large eggs

1 1/2 c. sugar

1/2 t. vanilla

1 1/4 c. buttermilk or sour milk (if you don’t have buttermilk,  put 1 1/4T. vinegar or lemon juice into a measuring cup and add enough milk to make 1 1/4 c. liquid)

raisins (optional and as many as you like)

What to do:

Allow butter and eggs to stand at room temperature for 30 minutes or so.  Meanwhile, grease and lightly flour two 8×1 1/2 round cake pans or one 9x13x2 inch baking pan; set aside.  In a medium bowl stir together flour, powder, soda and spices; set aside

Preheat oven to 350° F.  In a large mixing bowl beat butter and shortening with electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds.  Add sugar and vanilla; beat until well combined.  Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.  Alternately add flour mixture and buttermilk to butter mixture in bowl.  beating on low just until combined.  Add raisins if using.

*Fruit and Nut Spice Cake:  prepare as above , except fold 1 c. chopped walnuts, 3/4 c. snipped dried apricots, and 1/2 c. flaked coconut into the batter.

*Applesauce Spice Cake:  prepare as above, except reduce buttermilk to 1/4 c. and combine it with 1 c. applesauce.  Alternately add this mixture and flour mixture to butter mixture.

*Pumpkin Spice Cake:  prepare as above, except reduce buttermilk to 1 c. and combine it with 1/2 c. canned pumpkin.  Alternately add this mixture to flour mixture and butter mixture.

Pour into prepared pans.  Bake 30-35 minutes or until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean.  Cool cake layers on wire racks for 10 minutes.  Remove cake layers from pans.  Cool thoroughly on wire racks, or place 9×13 on wire rack ; cool thoroughly.

Frost with desired frosting (I use cream cheese frosting: In a large mixing bowl combine 4-ounces softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup softened butter, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla; beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in 2-3/4 to 3 cups powdered sugar to reach spreading consistency).

I think it was a hit, cause this is all that’s left!! ;)

What a world we live in…

In this day and age, it is hard to find a job, let alone a job with insurance.   It is even harder to get disability insurance.  You have to jump through so many hoops, it’s ridiculous!!  Why is is so hard to get what you need in this country??  For years, people (people I know!!!!) have sat on their duffs and collected welfare and/or disability of one form or another when they really didn’t need it.  Then people who really do need it are denied, I will never understand that.  There is something wrong there and it needs to be fixed.   **hops off her soap box**

New laptop…

Hubs and I are shopping for a new laptop.  The one he has now is just too big.   It is a 17 ” widescreen.  We like to use it when we travel and such, but because of it’s size,  it’s not real practical for that.  We have been looking for good laptop deals.  I would like to be able to use it to blog as well, so it has to have the right amount of RAM and disk space and all that. I hope we find one we like that we can afford soon.  Anyone have a favorite they can recommend??

This week I made Breakfast Burritos for the first time EVER!!.  They were very good!! I will definitely be making these again!!  The recipe is as follows:

What you will need: (This will make 12 or so…)

12 eggs

2 T. butter or margarine

1 roll breakfast (original) sausage

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

1 half of a large onion, chopped

1 green bell pepper (optional), chopped

10-12 large flour tortilla’s (or 20-24 small)

add whatever seasonings to your eggs that you would normally use, to taste

What to do:

In a large skillet, cook and crumble  your breakfast sausage with your onion and pepper (if using) until browned.   While sausage is cooking, scramble your eggs with seasonings in a medium sized bowl, until well blended.  Take sausage out of pan, leaving any grease in the pan.  Add butter or margarine to pan to make about 2 T. of grease to cook eggs in.  Add your 12 seasoned and well scrambled eggs to the pan with grease in it.   Cook until eggs are done, but not dried out.  Add cheese and cook just until cheese is melted.

Add a generous amount of egg/sausage mixture to each flour tortilla, roll and eat.  My husband liked these with a little salsa.  You could add taco sauce, salsa, sour cream, anything you might like!!  I also fried my tortillas on a griddle before using them (simply brush melted butter on griddle, put tortilla shell on, brush top of tortilla with more melted butter, grill on both sides til browned, cover with damp paper towel to keep soft, warm in microwave as needed)

Heaven is a Wonderful Place!!

If you could have God’s promise that YOU would go right to HEAVEN when you die, would you take it??

Let me show YOU how YOU can have This Promise!!

ALL HAVE SINNED

ROMANS 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no not one.

ROMANS 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God.

GOD’S PRICE ON SIN

ROMANS 6:23 A For the wages of sin is death.

THERE ARE TWO DEATHS

REVELATION 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

OUR WAY OUT

ROMANS 5:8-9 But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

GOD’S PERSONAL PROMISE

ROMANS 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Take God at his word and claim His promise for your salvation.  Bow you head right now and sincerely ask Jesus Christ to forgive your sins and to save your soul.  Saying a prayer does not save you!!  You must believe what the Bible says and mean it in your heart to be saved!!!

ROMANS 10:9-11 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  For the scripture sayeth, Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed.

Once you are eternally saved, you are always eternally saved…

HEBREWS 13:5B…for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

If you have read this and accepted Christ as your personal Savior, CONGRATULATIONS on getting that taken care of, you’ll be so glad you did!!   Please leave your name in a comment so that I can pray for you !!! And also find yourself a good, Bible (King James) preaching Church where you can grow in your faith!!

God Bless!!

If you don’t need this message, but know someone who does, feel free to link them to this or just tell them about the blog post!!  It is important that every person get this taken care BEFORE it is too late.  We often think we have all the time in the world, what’s the rush??  My son was killed in an auto-accident at 10 (He asked the Lord to be his  Savior when he was 7)!!  We have no guarantee of how long we have on this earth, we need to spread the word!!
